Toko clothing's first drop is produced with 100% organic cotton only. The organic cotton comes from seeds that have not been genetically modified (non-GMO) and is grown without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilisers. Organic cotton farming uses natural methods, such as crop rotation, which benefit not only the soil, fauna and the environment, but create biodiversity and promote good health and quality of life for farmers and their communities. However, our supplier not only focusses on sustainable garments, but also encourage GOTS-certified printing techniques. This means, usage of non-harmful inks and sustainable production methods. Toko’s T-shirts are made entirely from cotton, and our hoodie (85% cotton) contains of 15% organic polyester, which is produced from post-consumer PET bottles. The clothing is manufactured in Bangladesh, where our supplier chooses to work with some of the most ethical and responsible factories in the country. The factories not only guarantee a legal minimum wage and fundamental requirements such as in-house-child-care facilities, maternity leave and medical cover, but also offer additional benefits to their workers (free transportation, performance and attendance bonuses and increasing pay scales).

WE ENCOURAGE OUR CUSTOMERS TO PICK-UP THEIR ORDER THEMSELVES, AS THIS DECREASES CARBON FOOTPRINTS

THE DYING FLOWER CAPS HAVE BEEN PRODUCED BY BEECHFIELD HEADWEAR, WHOM HAVE PLEDGED 1% OF THEIR ANNUAL SALES TO THE PRESERVATION AND RESTORATION OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. THE CAPS ARE MANUFACTURED IN THEIR CHINEES FACTORY, WHO OPPERATE UNDER A STRICT ETHICAL POLICY. FIELD-BASED STAFF CARRY OUT FULL AUDITS TO MAKE SURE LOCAL LAWS, WAGES, AND HUMAN RIGHTS ARE RESPECTED. COERCED/FORCED LABOUR, INCLUDING CHILD WORK IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. ADDITIONALLY, MANUFACTURING AT EVERY STAGE MEETS OR EXCEEDS ALL LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS, INCLUDING THE PROMOTION OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND REDUCTION OF WASTE.

TO MAKE SURE WE LIMIT THE CARBON FOOTPRINT OF THESE CAPS, WE MADE SURE THAT FOR EVERY DYING FLOWER CAP THAT GETS BOUGHT, ONE TREE WILL BE PLANTED. SPECIFICALLY, AN ALBIZIA GUMMIFERA WILL BE PLANTED IN THE BURNT MKUSSU FOREST, IN TANZANIA. THIS TREE WILL LIVE FOR 150 YEARS AND OFFSET 150KG OF CO2 IN ITS LIFESPAN, WHICH IS EQUAL TO OFFSETTING 76KG OF BURNT COAL!

Toko's Psychedelic Swim Shorts are made of 91% recycled polyester

What is recycled polyester?

Recycled polyester (rPET for short) is a fabric that’s produced from synthetic fibers. Recycled polyester is produced by recycling existing materials (like plastic bottles and packaging) but still has all the characteristics and performance as a regular polyester, making it a more sustainable fabric alternative.

How’s recycled polyester made?

Recycled polyester is made by crushing plastic products into small pieces. These small pieces are then processed into yarn, transformed into a fiber, and in the end—made into a fabric.

What are the advantages of recycled polyester?

Producing rPet takes 33% to 53% less energy than creating polyester from scratch. Also, rPet produces approximately 54.6% fewer CO2 emissions to the air than virgin polyester.

By using recycled materials to make things like the Psychedelic Swim Shorts, at least some of the plastic waste produced doesn’t end up in landfills.
